Introduction

Stepping out of our daily routine and onto the ancient path of the 'voi de Vézelay', we embark on a journey of discovery and exploration. From the beautiful town of Vézelay, nestled in the rolling hills of Burgundy, we follow the footsteps of countless pilgrims who have walked this route for centuries.

As we walk through picturesque villages, lush forests, and rolling vineyards, we begin to shed the layers of modern life and connect with the simplicity and beauty of the natural world. The gentle sound of our footsteps and the rustle of leaves underfoot become a soothing backdrop to our thoughts and reflections.

And when we reach the Pyrenees, where the 'voi de Vézelay' transitions into the 'voi de Français' and finally ends in Santiago de Compostela, we're met with a sense of excitement and anticipation. We know that the challenges of the mountains lie ahead, but we also know that the rewards of the journey are waiting for us.

On April 20th at approximately 8:40 am, my family and I departed from Okaihau and embarked on a four-hour journey to Auckland. The reason for our trip was for my mother to take my younger sister out for an evening, so she had already reserved a hotel room in Britomart for the night. Step 9: New Acquaintances

Day 48, Sunday 11th of June, 28km walked + 3km   We got up at 6am and left the church of Iglesia de Santa Lucia / Santa Luzia eliza by 6:30am. We walked for 20 minutes before coming by where the track intersected a road, and a car was parked up. Two pilgrims were sitting by it eating breakfast. I called out Hola and got no reply and so continuing on. Enoch shot on ahead becouse he wanted a coffee. When we came across him next, he was sitting at a cafe that was 6km away from where we had slept. We stopped for a bit and drank coffee.  Drinking coffee at the Cafe in the village of Zuriain Pilgrims passed us and some stopped. One who did stop was an American called Steven. He must have over heard our wondering questions between ourselves on the price of the omelets which the Café cooked. Step 2: The First 5 Days ~ Vézelay to Nevers

After spending 3 nights in Paris and seeing the Paris sights, the four of us took one train, and two buses to Sermizelles. We arrived later than expected, as we had delays that incorporated over an hour into our journey. We arrived in Sermizelles at 6:20 pm. The sky was somewhat overcast, and a threat of rain hang above our heads as we pulled on our backpacks with grunts and gowns, knowing that the weight we carried will be with us for the next 1,000 miles. We began walking as the sun began to approach the horizon. After fallowing Rose's memory of where she had first walked 5 years before, as well as a few guide stickers along the correct route for 3.4 kilometers, we pitched our tents around quarter past seven in a field that didn't seem to have anything growing in it.     Our first night upon The Way.  We were still 9.1 kilometers from Vézelay where we would receive a pilgrimage passport and become official pilgrims of The Way.
